The essence
Air is atmosphere. It surrounds without containing, and it carries things: sound, scent, a rumor at work, the mood of a family dinner. Symbolically it stands for intellect, language and social exchange. It names what fire feels, questions what earth assumes, and gives words to what water senses.
The idea is old. Around the fifth century BCE the Greek philosopher Empedocles described four roots of everything, and air was one of them. Aristotle called it hot and moist, and later medicine linked it to blood and the sanguine temperament: sociable, hopeful, talkative. Astrologers grouped Gemini, Libra and Aquarius as the air triplicity, three signs spaced 120 degrees apart around the zodiac.
There is no air planet. Air lives in the links between things, which is its lesson: meaning lives in connection, not possession. Where air falls in your chart, you need conversation and fresh input to feel alive. It sharpens when focused and drifts when nothing holds it.
