Every bodygraph resolves into one of five energy types — Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor, or Reflector. Type is the first and largest fact of a Human Design chart: how your energy is built to move through a day.

Where type comes from

Type isn't a quiz result — it's mechanics. Which centers are defined in your bodygraph, and whether a motor center connects to the throat, sorts every chart into one of five configurations. Each configuration moves energy differently, so each thrives on a different strategy.

The five, briefly

Generators — a defined Sacral center, the body's great motor; here to respond to life and build mastery through work that lights them up. Roughly a third of everyone. Manifesting Generators — Sacral power with a motor-to-throat connection: the multi-passionate fast lane, responding and then informing. Projectors — no Sacral; a focused, penetrating aura built to see others clearly and guide energy rather than generate it, flourishing when recognised and invited. Manifestors — a motor to the throat without the Sacral: the only type designed to initiate from stillness, here to start things and set currents moving. Reflectors — all nine centers open; the rare lunar mirrors, sampling and reflecting their environment, keyed to the Moon's cycle. About one percent of us.

What type is for

Type's gift is permission: it names how your energy actually works so you can stop running someone else's operating manual. A Projector working Generator hours burns out; a Generator waiting in Manifestor stillness stalls. Each type has its own strategy, its own signature and not-self theme — the built-in feedback that says whether you're living your design or fighting it.

The Five Types FAQs

How do I find out my Human Design type?

Cast your bodygraph with your birth date, time, and place — the free calculator derives your type from which centers are defined. It cannot be reliably guessed from personality; the mechanics decide.

Which type is rarest?

Reflectors, with all nine centers open — around one percent of people. Generators and Manifesting Generators together are the majority; Projectors roughly a fifth; Manifestors a small but potent few.

Can my type change?

No — type is fixed by your natal bodygraph. What changes with growth is how gracefully you live it: strategy and authority are skills, and the signature feelings deepen with practice.

Is any type better than the others?

None. The types are complementary roles in a working whole — builders, guides, initiators, mirrors. Every type has its own way to thrive and its own way to burn out; the design only asks that you run as what you are.
