Human Design's chart is not a wheel but a figure: nine geometric centers joined by channels, coloured in or left open by the planets of two birth moments. Everything the system says about you is written on this one diagram.

The bodygraph lays nine centers — head, mind, throat, identity, will, Sacral, emotions, instinct, and root — over a human silhouette, and strings 36 channels between them. Each channel ends in two of the 64 gates, and every gate corresponds to a hexagram of the I Ching mapped onto the zodiac wheel.

Your birth information activates specific gates. Where two activated gates complete a channel, the channel switches on and colours both of its centers: they become defined — consistent, reliable energy. Centers left uncoloured are open — apertures where you take in and amplify the people around you. The pattern of defined and open is the skeleton of the entire reading.

Two birth moments, one graph

Uniquely, the bodygraph is drawn from two calculations: your birth moment (the black Personality column — the you that you know) and a moment roughly three months earlier, when the Sun sat 88 degrees back (the red Design column — the body's inheritance, wired before you arrived). Both sets of activations print onto the same graph, and the interplay is the subject of Design & Personality.

From the finished pattern the system derives everything else: your type, strategy, authority, definition, profile, and incarnation cross.

The Bodygraph FAQs

What do the colours on a bodygraph mean?

Coloured (defined) centers and channels are your consistent energy — what you can rely on daily. White (open) centers are where you receive and amplify others. Black activations come from your Personality calculation, red from your Design.

Where do the 64 gates come from?

They're the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching, mapped in a fixed order around the zodiac. Whichever gate-segments your planets occupied — at birth and at the Design moment — are the gates activated in your chart.

Is the bodygraph astrology?

It's a synthesis: the planetary positions of astrology, run through the I Ching's 64-part wheel, drawn onto a chakra-like body map. The planets supply the data; the bodygraph supplies the grammar.

Can my bodygraph change over time?

Your natal bodygraph is fixed for life. What changes is the sky's overlay — today's planets activate gates for everyone at once, which is what our daily transits page tracks.
