Every bodygraph has loose threads: single gates reaching toward a partner gate they don’t have. When someone else carries the missing half, the channel completes only when you are together. Human Design calls these electromagnetic channels, and they are the mechanics beneath what you’ve always called chemistry: the pull, the charge, the feeling that something switches on when they walk into the room.
Lay two bodygraphs over one another and a third design appears: the chart of the relationship itself, holding definition neither of you has alone. Human Design reads a relationship as mechanics, not fortune. Your two charts are laid one over the other, and every point of contact gets a name. Electromagnetic channels are where each of you holds one half of a channel and you complete it together: that's the spark. Companionship is where you both carry the same definition and simply recognize each other. Compromise and dominance are where one chart carries a whole channel and the other meets it with half of it, or none at all. None of these are grades. They describe what it actually feels like to share a kitchen, a bed, a life.
This is the famous one, the reason a near-stranger can feel like the missing end of your sentence. Every channel in Human Design runs between two gates. When you carry one gate and the other person carries its partner, that channel only exists while you're together: two half-notes forming a chord neither of you can play alone. The body registers that completion as attraction, chemistry, magnetism. Over the years, the same wiring that drew you in can also chafe. Think of the argument you keep having on long drives. Knowing which channels are electromagnetic between you gives the pull a name.
No pairing of types is doomed, and none comes with a guarantee. Your type pairing describes the everyday texture of the connection. A Generator's steady engine beside a Projector's focus is a famously nourishing exchange, while two Manifestors have to negotiate two independent wills. What matters far more is whether each of you lives by your own strategy and authority. Two people living their own designs can make almost any pairing work.
These are centers open in both of your charts. Nobody in the relationship holds that energy steady, so the two of you take it in from the world together and amplify it. Quiet rooms are where a couple reads other people most wisely, and also where you can both get swept up by the same outside pressure, like an anxious houseguest whose worry seems to fill every room. Knowing your quiet rooms helps you notice when a mood in the house belongs to neither of you.
