Strategy

how your type meets the world

Each of the five types carries one instruction for meeting life with the least resistance: its strategy. Strategy is Human Design's most practical teaching — the experiment you can run this week.

One instruction per type

Strategy follows directly from how your type moves energy. Generators: wait to respond — let life bring things to you and follow what the Sacral lights up for, rather than initiating from the mind. Manifesting Generators: wait to respond, then inform — same Sacral compass, plus a courtesy call before you move, because you move fast. Manifestors: inform before you act — you're built to initiate; telling the people in your blast radius first is what melts resistance. Projectors: wait for the invitation — your guidance lands when it's been asked for and recognised. Reflectors: wait a lunar cycle — let big decisions ripen through a full turn of the Moon.

Why waiting isn't passivity

Four of the five strategies involve waiting, and all of them are routinely misread as doing nothing. They aren't. Responding is an active, alert posture — a Generator's day is full of motion; the strategy only governs where the impulse comes from. Waiting for an invitation doesn't silence a Projector; it aims them where their insight will actually be received. Informing costs a Manifestor thirty seconds and buys back the trust their independence otherwise spends.

Strategy pairs with your inner authority: strategy says how opportunities should arrive; authority says how to decide once they do.

Running the experiment

Human Design calls itself an experiment, and strategy is the lab bench: try your type's instruction for a few weeks and watch the feedback. The gauge is your signature and not-self theme — more satisfaction, success, peace, or surprise means you're on your design; mounting frustration, bitterness, anger, or disappointment means you've slipped into forcing. Strategy FAQs

What exactly does a Generator respond to?

Anything that arrives from outside — a question, an offer, a poster, a song. The Sacral answers in the body, a yes-lift or a no-drop, often before the mind has an opinion. Strategy is trusting that answer.

Who does a Manifestor have to inform?

The people your action will genuinely affect — family, colleagues, whoever is inside the impact zone. It's information, not permission-seeking: you're still the one who initiates.

Do Projectors have to wait forever?

Only for the big doors: work, love, where to live. Daily life doesn't need invitations. And Projectors can absolutely make themselves visible — mastery attracts the recognition that brings the invitation.

Why does a Reflector wait a whole lunar cycle?

With all nine centers open, a Reflector's inner weather changes as the Moon lights different gates day by day. A full cycle — about 29.5 days — lets them feel a decision from every side before committing.
