The essence
Venus takes her name from the Roman goddess of love. Her Greek counterpart, Aphrodite, was said to rise from the sea foam and answer to no one in matters of desire. In your chart she is the voice that says this one, not that one. She is your sense of taste and your template for closeness, the inner measure that tells you when a room, a friend, or a plan feels right. She rarely argues her case; she simply knows.
In the sky, Venus is the morning and evening star, the brightest object after the Sun and Moon, seen before dawn or just after sunset. She turns retrograde roughly every 19 months, and her meetings with the Sun trace a five-pointed pattern over eight years, often called the rose of Venus. Astrologers read that rhythm as a picture of what she stands for: proportion, pattern, and things that fit together.
Symbolically, Venus covers beauty, value, connection, pleasure, and peace. Romance is part of it, but so are friendship, money, art, gardens, manners, and the small courtesies that make a hard day easier. Venus is the principle that says life should be enjoyed, not merely endured.
