Islands and bridges

Defined centers connect through defined channels into continents of consistent energy. Single definition: every defined center is joined in one unbroken territory — the chart is self-contained, processing is quick and internal. Split definition: two separate islands — common, and the origin of the feeling that certain people complete a circuit in you. Triple split: three islands, a design that synthesises many inputs and often needs varied company to feel whole. Quadruple split: four islands — rare, deliberate, and slow to process, in the best sense.

(A fifth case, no definition at all, is the Reflector — nothing to connect, everything open.)

What the splits feel like

Between your islands run missing bridges — specific gates or channels that would join them. People who carry those bridges make your whole system feel suddenly continuous: electric, clarifying, occasionally addictive. That's neither romance nor destiny; it's wiring — worth knowing precisely because it feels so much like fate. It's one of the mechanics our compatibility tool reads when two charts meet.

Split charts also take longer to reach internal consensus — a decision has to travel between islands, often via other people or simply via time. That isn't indecision; it's the architecture doing its work.

Is single definition better than a split?

No — just faster. Single-definition people process independently; split-definition people are built for synthesis and connection. Each architecture has its own pace and its own gifts.

What is a bridging gate?

The specific gate (or channel) that would connect two of your islands. When another person's chart carries it, your two territories link through them — a large part of why some connections feel instantly completing.

How common is each definition?

Single and split definitions cover the great majority of charts; triple splits are a solid minority; quadruple splits are genuinely rare. No definition at all occurs only in Reflectors — about one percent.

Does definition affect decision-making speed?

Distinctly. The more islands, the more a decision benefits from time, movement, and conversation before it settles. Split-definition people often think best by talking it through — that's mechanics, not neediness.
