IC & Descendant Lines

roots, and the people you meet

The quieter half of the four angles: the IC line, where a planet colours home and roots, and the Descendant line, where it arrives in the shape of other people. Quieter — not weaker.

The IC — the taproot

The IC — Imum Coeli, the sky's lowest point — governs home, family, foundations, and the private self the public never audits. Along a planet's IC line, that planet moves into the basement of your life: it shapes where you live, how you rest, and what belonging feels like.

Moon IC ground is the classic home-line — many people report finally feeling settled there. Venus IC ground makes home beautiful and hospitable. Saturn IC ground suits building literal foundations — property, family duty, long roots — though it can sit heavy on the lonely. Pluto IC ground renovates you from the cellar up. IC lines rarely make headlines; they make histories.

The Descendant — the meeting line

The Descendant is the setting point, opposite the Ascendant — the chart's doorway for other people: partners, close friends, open rivals. Along a planet's DC line you tend to meet that planet rather than be it: its qualities arrive in the people the place keeps introducing.

Venus DC ground is the tradition's romance line — beloveds seem to find you there. Jupiter DC ground brings generous allies and lucky introductions. Mars DC ground brings passionate partners and worthy opponents, sometimes in the same person. Saturn DC ground brings serious commitments — and teaches contracts. On a DC line, check your natal planet honestly: what you meet is your own planet, mirrored.

On the map

IC lines run straight north–south (the mirror of the Midheaven line); DC lines curve as the mirror of the Ascendant line. The free Best Place to Live tool weighs all four angles together, and orb of influence covers how near is near enough.

IC & Descendant Lines FAQs

Which line is best for finding love?

Venus lines lead the tradition — especially the Venus Descendant line, where the planet of love arrives as other people. Moon and Jupiter DC lines are warm seconds. As ever, the natal condition of the planet sets the quality of what the line delivers.

Is an IC line a good place to buy a home?

IC lines are the natural home-and-roots lines, and benefic ones (Moon, Venus, Jupiter) are classic choices for settling. Saturn IC can also anchor property and permanence — just expect the mortgage to feel very real there.

Do Descendant lines only affect romance?

No — the Descendant governs all significant others: business partners, best friends, declared rivals. A DC line colours the whole cast of characters a place sends you.

Why do IC and MC lines come in pairs?

They're the two ends of one axis — when a planet culminates along one meridian, it anti-culminates along the meridian on the far side of the globe. Every MC line has an IC twin, exactly as career and home are two ends of one life.
