The Midheaven Line
Where a planet crowns the sky
Along a planet's Midheaven line, that planet sat at the highest point of the sky when you were born. In those places it takes charge of your public life: your career, your reputation, and what people come to know you for.
Draw your map, freeThe line of vocation
The Midheaven, or Medium Coeli (the midpoint of the sky), is the most public point in your chart. It speaks to career, standing, and the version of you that strangers could describe. If a planet was culminating there at your birth, its MC line makes it the patron of your working life. What you do, how others see it, and what that place seems to draw out of you all take on that planet's color.
Sun MC ground nudges you toward visibility and leadership. Jupiter MC ground is the tradition's favorite for professional luck: promotions, patrons, open doors. Saturn MC ground builds slowly and asks you to show your work, yet what it builds lasts. Mercury MC ground favors writers, traders, and anyone who gets paid to think out loud.
Choosing one deliberately
MC lines are the most goal-oriented lines on the map, so pick one the way you'd pick a mentor. Start with the planet in your natal chart, because an MC line amplifies the planet you actually have, not the textbook version. Then ask whether your ambitions and the planet's style get along. Uranus MC ground will keep reinventing your career whether you asked for it or not. Neptune MC ground favors artists and healers and quietly dissolves org charts.
The MC's opposite pole is the IC, the point of roots and home, and together they form one axis: see IC & Descendant lines. Career and home swap places on the map just as they swap places over the course of a life.
On the map
On your free map, MC lines appear as clean north–south meridians, because a planet culminates along an entire line of longitude at the same moment. Get to know the cast of characters in planetary lines, and read up on how close counts before you fall for a city three hundred miles from the line.

What is the best Midheaven line for career?
Jupiter and the Sun are the traditional first choices, offering expansion and recognition. Still, if Saturn is strong in your birth chart, a Saturn MC line may be your real career line: slower and sterner than luck, and more durable.
Why are MC lines straight when AC lines curve?
Culmination depends on longitude alone, since a planet crowns the sky along a whole meridian at once. That's why MC and IC lines run as straight verticals. Rising and setting also depend on latitude, which bends AC and DC lines into curves.
Can an MC line help if I work remotely?
Yes. The line describes how you relate to visibility and vocation while you live there, not where your employer happens to be. Remote workers living on Jupiter MC ground still report doors opening for them.
What does a difficult planet on the MC line mean?
A demanding boss of a place. Saturn tests and then certifies; Pluto hands you power struggles and depth; Neptune blurs titles but feeds callings. None forbids success — each names its price.
