Your birth chart is fixed — but the Earth turns beneath it. Astrocartography maps where each of your natal planets rises, culminates, sets, and anti-culminates across the globe, turning one chart into a world map of places.

One chart, a whole Earth

At the moment you were born, every planet stood somewhere over the Earth. From one city that planet was rising; from another it was directly overhead; from a third, setting. Astrocartography simply draws those somewheres: for each planet, the places where it sat on one of the chart's four angles — the Ascendant, Midheaven, Descendant, and IC — at your birth moment.

The result is a world map crossed with lines, one set per planet. Along a planet's line, that planet behaves as if it were angular in your chart — loud, present, impossible to ignore. Living on your Venus line is a different life from living on your Saturn line, though you are the same person with the same chart in both.

Weather by geography

The philosophy is the same one we bring to every chart on this site: weather, not fate. A line doesn't force events; it tunes the atmosphere. Jupiter on an angle tends to open doors and enlarge appetites; Saturn on an angle asks for structure and patience; the Moon brings feeling and belonging forward. Place amplifies — it doesn't replace choice, work, or the rest of your chart.

The technique was popularised in the twentieth century by Jim Lewis under the name Astro*Carto*Graphy, but the underlying idea — that a chart can be relocated and read for a new place — is the old practice of relocation astrology, drawn all at once instead of one city at a time.

What Is Astrocartography? FAQs

Do I need my exact birth time for astrocartography?

It matters more here than almost anywhere in astrology — the angles move about a degree every four minutes, and the lines move with them. Without an exact time the map is cast for noon, which blurs which lines are truly closest to you.

Do astrocartography lines work if I never travel?

The strongest effects belong to time actually spent in a place, but practitioners also read lines for the flavour of dealings with a place — companies, people, and opportunities from near a line often carry its tone.

Is astrocartography the same as a relocated chart?

Same engine, different view. A relocated chart re-casts your birth chart for one chosen city; astrocartography draws the results for every place at once as lines on a map. Use the map to shortlist, the relocated chart to inspect.

Can a place override my birth chart?

No — geography emphasises what the chart already contains. A move can bring a planet's themes forward dramatically, but you always bring your whole natal chart with you. The suitcase is non-negotiable.
